We are partnering with NATSIHA to appoint a Finance Manager who brings both technical expertise and a collaborative approach. This role offers the opportunity to make a real difference within an organisation dedicated to its mission, whilst ensuring sound financial management and strategic decision-making. The Finance Manager will be integral to leading financial operations and fostering a positive workplace culture. This role is part-time at 30.4 hours per week (ideally across five days), providing a perfect opportunity for those with school-aged children.

NATSIHA is the first and only national leadership body for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Housing in Australia. Purpose: Provide national leadership on First Nations Housing that empowers community-controlled solutions and self-determination.
The Role:
Reporting directly to the Head of Operations, the Finance Manager's responsibilities will include:
- Financial Management: Oversee the operational and financial systems for the business, managing the company accounts and ensuring the accurate recording of financial transactions.
- Payroll: Manage the payroll function, ensuring the timely and accurate processing of wages, superannuation, tax, and other statutory deductions in accordance with Australian regulations.
- Board Reporting: Produce and present monthly Board Reports, reviewing variances between actual and budgeted figures, providing explanations and actionable insights to inform decision-making.
- Forecasting & Budgeting: Lead the quarterly forecast process and prepare forecasting models. Collaborate with business units to develop the annual budget, ensuring alignment with the organisation’s strategic goals and objectives.
- Financial Reporting: Prepare financial statements, including Profit & Loss, balance sheets, cash flow, and variance analysis. Deliver accurate and timely financial reports to senior leadership and stakeholders.
- Tax and Compliance: Ensure compliance with all relevant tax and regulatory obligations, including ACNC requirements and Australian tax law. Prepare and submit tax returns and manage compliance matters.
What you'll bring to the role:
At least five years of experience in a senior financial role, ideally in the non-profit sector or a similar organisation, and will possess the following qualifications and attributes:
- Experience working in a not-for-profit organisation.
- Experience working with Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander community.
- Preference will be given to those who identify as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander.
- CA or CPA qualified, with a deep understanding of Australian tax law and financial regulations.
- Proven experience in payroll management, financial reporting, and tax compliance.
- Strong ability to produce Board Reports, analyse variances, and provide clear financial insights.
- Experience in leading the budgeting process, including annual budgets and quarterly forecasting.
- Strong experience collaborating with various business units to provide financial insights and enhance decision-making.
- Excellent ability to translate technical finance information to non-financial stakeholders in a clear, accessible way.
- Experience working with a Business Intelligence (BI) Manager to improve management reporting and financial analysis.
What will set you apart from other candidates:
- In-depth Knowledge of Xero Software: Understanding the various features of Xero, such as invoicing, bank reconciliation, and financial reporting, is crucial.
- Proficiency in Cloud Accounting: Xero is a cloud-based platform, so being comfortable with cloud accounting principles and practices is important. Employment Hero is also cloud-based, your exposure to these types of systems would be highly regarded.
- Has experience with Employment Hero: We use Employment Hero as our HRIS, integrating with Xero for payroll and expenses functionality. An understanding of this system and exposure to similar integration would be helpful.
- Financial Analysis Skills: The ability to interpret financial data, create budgets, and forecast future financial performance is essential.
- Adaptability and Continuous Learning: Both Xero and Employment Hero frequently update their features, so staying updated and continuously learning is key.
- Attention to Detail: Accuracy is important when managing employee data and payroll information to avoid errors.
- Communication Skills: Effective communication is essential for explaining HR/Finance policies, resolving employee queries, and collaborating with team members.
- Problem-Solving Skills: The ability to troubleshoot issues and find solutions quickly is valuable when dealing with software.
